Community Classes

As an independent, not for profit community organisation we aim to enhance the quality of life for Kaumātua in our area. Rauawaawa has developed a range of relevant and affordable community classes aimed at people 55 years and over. All course fees are to be paid directly to the tutors, to cover their time coordinating these classes. Transport for community classes and other services is available within the Hamilton city boundary and a koha of $5.00 is requested to help ensure this service remains available to support Kaumātua.

Rorohiko (Computers) 55 years and over

Tuesday 9.30am – 11.30am

This computer course is designed for seniors wanting to learn basic computer skills that will help them with the day-to-day uses of a computer (such as email, use of the internet, basic use of computer programs). This course is for beginner to intermediate levels.

Performing Arts

Tuesday 12.30pm – 2.30pm

Come along and sing a song in this performing arts course designed to teach students traditional and contemporary Maori waiata and waiata-a-ringa (action songs) for all occasions in a friendly, social atmosphere. All levels of learning welcome!

Crochet Group

A fantastic social group for people who want to learn the art of crochet. If you are looking for something to do or want to learn or maybe share your own skills, this group is for you!

Healthy Cooking

Wednesday 12pm – 2.00pm

This course will educate and empower you to make healthy food choices for a healthier lifestyle.

Waiata/Whaikorero Night class

Wednesday 6.00pm – 8.00pm

This course teaches the protocols of Tainui and promotes the oral art of karanga, whaikorero and waiata. The hours of this class cater to people that work or study during the daytime.

Kakahu

Thursday 9.30am – 12.30pm

A fusion of korowai, raranga and taaniko. This class will offer both traditional and contemporary learning of these Maori crafts.

Te Reo Class

Thursday 9.30am – 12.30pm

Ko te kai of te rangatira he korero (the food of chiefs is language) – There is no better way to understand Te Reo than to speak it. Come along for some fun interactive learning
